From the Desk of Tom Elmore
This is the way it goes, folks.
In OKC, the council "pre-emptively repealed" the possibility of a practical, economical, readily developable, comprehensive rail transit system by allowing ODOT (Oklahoma Department of Transportation) to destroy the rail yard of the facility it (OKC government) had purchased with federal grant money in 1989 to become our transit center -- OKC Union Station, 300 SW 7th. This was and is bold, open treachery against the people of the state.
If leaders like those in Kansas City and Oklahoma City had fought half-as-hard FOR reasonable development of widespread rail transit using obvious, existing assets -- as they have to undermine any prospect for real rail transit, citizens in both metros would likely already be using modern rail transit systems.
The deliberate sabotage of the public will (which is to establish a modern Light Rail System) is not the work of leaders who want rail transit. Nor is the mindless destruction of the last, grand urban rail passenger center in the West with all its original train-handling space intact.
Don't listen to what they say. Look at what they do -- every time.
